squeakvm and cog, updated memoryusage

I spent a bunch of time setting up and using Squeak 4.4 with Cog on a slow laptop this weekend. It didn't feel slow.

4.2 with SqueakVM vs 4.4 with Cog on a 1.6GHz Pentium-M, 2MB L2 cache, Ubuntu 12.04.2:

239,700,374 bytecodes/sec; 8,259,068 sends/sec squeakvm
321,608,040 bytecodes/sec; 43,371,304 sends/sec cog

4.3 with SqueakVM (the all-in-one image on the website) vs 4.4 with Cog on a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 3 MB L2 cache, OS X 10.8.2:

527,291,452 bytecodes/sec; 11,599,578 sends/sec squeakvm
652,229,299 bytecodes/sec; 74,030,622 sends/sec cog

In other news, I've updated my MemoryUsage class to work with 4.4, and restored the older versions from a backup of the website.

OCompletion and Squeak 4.4

I ran into this twice, on two different systems. The instructions for installing OCompletion in Squeak 4.4's Extending the system document are dated. They say to do

"OCompletion provides source code completion as you type"
(Installer ss project: 'OCompletion') install: 'Ocompletion'.
(Smalltalk at: #ECToolSet) register.
(Smalltalk at: #ToolSet) default: (Smalltalk at: #ECToolSet).

Do this instead:

(Installer ss project: 'OCompletion') install: 'Ocompletion'.
(Installer ss project: 'MetacelloRepository') install: 'ConfigurationOfOCompletion'.
"Browse the ConfigurationOfOCompletion>>stable: method to find the latest
version for Squeak.  Right now (Feb 2013), it's 1.2.2 for Squeak 4.2.x;
install that."
((Smalltalk at: #ConfigurationOfOCompletion) project version: '1.2.2') load.
(Smalltalk at: #ECToolSet) register.
(Smalltalk at: #ToolSet) default: (Smalltalk at: #ECToolSet).

Update, Jan 23 2016: still broken in Squeak 5.0. The stable version for 5.0 is 1.4.3.
